Who
Jita Kyoei Dojo is a group studying Jiyushinkai Aikibudo in Dallas, Texas. We are not samurai wannabe's, ultimate fighters, special forces soldiers of fortune, or secret ninja. We are just sincere folks interested in making budo a part of our lives.
What

In Japanese, aikido can be translated as "the way of meeting energy." Aikido teaches us to efficiently fit to the energy of an attack and then control an opponent or attacker. Rather than relying on kicks, punches or joint locks to cause damage, we focus on using kuzushi (off-balancing and destabilizing posture) and strategic movement and positioning to manage aggressive intent so it is no longer a threat. Size is not an issue, as even the smallest person is able to apply any technique on the largest person.

Jita Kyoei Dojo uses a progressive syllabus of instruction to instill proper kihon dosa (basic principles) through sotai kata (prearranged paired forms/techniques) and randori (free practice). In addition, the study of traditional Japanese weapons such as the bokken and jo (wooden sword and staff) also contribute to the understanding and application of aikido principles. Aikido is suitable for persons of both genders and all ages, and requires only a basic level of physical fitness to begin training.

Learn more about our particular style of aikido by visiting the Jiyushinkai Aikibudo website. For more general info about aikido, check out the resources on our links page.
